Course Overview
(Music playing) Hi everyone, my name is Chase DeHan, and welcome to my course, Visualizing Data with ggplot 2: R Data Playbook. I'm currently the lead data scientist at Tesorio, and before I entered the private sector, I was an assistant professor of finance and economics at the University of South Carolina Upstate. Ggplot really is one of the best reasons to use R. There are so many neat things you can do with ggplot, and by the end of this course, you'll be able to impress your coworkers or fellow students with how fast and easily you can generate beautiful and powerful plots. In this course, we will cover the foundational building blocks of ggplot. The syntax is a bit different from R, and it does take some getting used to, but it's built for power and flexibility and becomes second nature with just a little bit of practice. Then we're going to go into extending a basic plot to include multiple variables. One of the neatest features of ggplot is being able to plot 1, 2, and even 3 or more variables on the same plot. Then, we'll go into using statistics transformations, and, like most R users, when we're plotting we are often trying to show calculated stats, and we can do many of the calculations within ggplot itself. Then we'll talk about customizing to look a certain way. So, ggplot has a lot of built-in functionality to easily change the colors, shapes, titles, and the general look. We'll go through many of these elements so you can make plots ready for presentation. By the end of the course, you will develop the foundation of ggplot usage, along with plenty of practice in generating high quality plots. I hope you'll join me as we learn the ins and outs of visualization with R's ggplot.
